Leading European photo printing company CEWE declared it has reduced its CO2 emissions more than was planned for 2022 with regard to the target set of halving the so-called Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2 emissions by 2025. In the base year 2015, CEWE emitted annually more than 13,400 tons of CO2, but the company planned for emissions to be reduced to 6,700 tons per year in 2025. But by 2022, the company reached the 2025 target with emissions of 5,198 tons.
CEWE is also breaking new ground when it comes to choosing its paper by offering several products made from recycled paper qualities since 2022, including the Nature Prints and the Nature desk calendar. Recently, the CEWE PHOTOBOOK made from 100% recycled paper also received the TIPA World Award 2023: a variant made from 100% recycled digital printing paper on the inside, with the endpaper made from FSC-certified paper.
“Our portfolio is impressive when it comes to sustainability. All of our products are made on demand – we do not have stock items. In addition, CEWE products have an extremely long service life, which is why some CEWE PHOTOBOOKS are passed on from one generation to the next,” says Thomas Mehls, who is responsible for sustainability on the CEWE Board of Management. “In addition to introducing more and more sustainable products, it is also important to make CEWE’s strategic orientation more sustainable, for example in the area of employee development or when reviewing our supply chain, to name just two examples.”
CEWE commitment to sustainability
In addition to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK, the Nature desk calendar and a few greeting cards that are printed on recycled paper, last year CEWE launched the XXL Advent calendar with Fairtrade-certified chocolate from Tony’s Chocolonely. The other advent calendars have also been improved. The company has completely dispensed with the inner parts made of plastic and the enveloping shrink film since last year, thus reducing the plastic content to a minimum. Overall, CEWE relies primarily on certification with the FSC seal for sustainable forestry for its photo products: FSC-certified paper is used for almost 100% of the photo paper and more than 95% of the digital printing paper. The aim is for all types of paper to fully comply with this standard by the end of this year.
